This day saw the final move in the eventual capture of General Cronje at Paardeberg.
The British had previously tried frontal assaults on the Boer position with disastrous consequences.
On 26 February the Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry took the lead in a final attack on the Boers and during the night, with the help of the Royal Engineers, dug trenches less than 100 meters from the Boer front lines.
The Canadians had been involved in previous attacks.
