Major-General Edward Yewd Brabant died on 13 December 1914 aged 75. He was a British Military Commander who fought in the Xhosa Wars of 1877–1878 and the Matabele War of 1893–1894.
In November 1899 he raised a light horse regiment known as Brabant’s Horse which included volunteers from South Africa, Australia, Britain and Canada.
His main area of operation was in the Eastern Cape with the Siege of Wepener being probably his major engagement.
His son, Lieutenant Arthur Edward Brabant, served with the Imperial Light Horse during the South African War and was wounded at the Siege of Ladysmith, dying two days later on 5 November 1899.
