Lieutenant-General Henry Mcleod Leslie Rundle died on 20 November 1934 aged 78.
He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1876 and saw service in South Africa in the Zulu War in 1879 and in the First Boer War of 1881.
He landed in Cape Town in March 1900 and commanded the 8th Brigade for the duration of the South African War seeing action at Dewetsdorp, Biddulphsberg and Wittebergen.
He was in the actions in the Brandwater Basin and commanded troops in the North-Eastern Free State, where he controlled many of the ‘drives’ organised in that region. In one of these operations he was slightly wounded.
