Zuurvlakte was a farm in the Eastern Cape between Aliwal North and Jamestown.

On 14 July 1901 the Connaught Rangers, under the command of Major Moore had to withstand an attack from Boer Commandos of Commandants Fouche and Myburgh. The Boers had entrenched in the mountains overlooking the farm on which the British had bivouacked for the night.

After many hours of fighting the Boers were eventually driven off.

British losses were seven men killed, including three Officers, and 17 wounded.
