William Eagleson Gordon was a Captain when he was awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Dwarsvlei on 11 July 1900.
He was part of the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders who took part in the battles to relieve Kimberley and was wounded at the Battle of Magersfontein.
He was also part of the Battalion that saw action at Doornkop where Winston Churchill, after the battle said, “there is no doubt they are the finest regiment in the world.”
He died on 10 March 1941.
