Reddersburg is a town 60 km south of Bloemfontein.

Commandant Christiaan de Wet, with his spoils from Sanna’s Post, was moving southwards.

On 2 April 1900, 600 troops of the Royal Irish Rifles left Dewetsdorp, bound for Reddersburg. The following morning (3 April 1900) they were 6 km east of Reddersburg on the farm Mostertshoek when de Wet engaged them.  Being totally outnumbered, de wet called on Captain McWhinnie to surrender – he declined.

De Wet brought his artillery into action and being surrounded and without water the British surrendered before any further action early on the following morning. British losses were 10 killed, 35 wounded and the balance taken prisoner.
