Cecil John Rhodes died on 26 March 1902 in Muizenberg, just outside Cape Town, South Africa.

He was a sickly child and was sent to South Africa in his late teens in the hope that the climate would improve his health.

When diamonds were discovered in Kimberley he was employed in the industry. Being the businessman he proved to be, within 20 years he controlled the industry.

On entering politics in the Cape Province he became Prime Minister in 1896, but was forced to resign after the Jameson Raid. He was in Kimberley during the siege of that city.

He died in 1902 from heart failure at the age of 48.
