Pieter Hendrik Kritzinger died on 20 October 1930 aged 60.

At the outbreak of the South African War (1899-1902) he was a burgher in the Rouxville Commando and saw action at the Battles of Stormberg and Sanna’s Post.

When the guerrilla phase of the war commenced he was promoted to Commander-in-Chief of the Boer Rebel Forces in the Cape Colony. As a part of General Christiaan de Wet’s Free State forces, Kritzinger’s commando, together with Gideon Scheepers and Johannes Lötter, successfully launched attacks deep into the Cape Colony on the British troops . The British communications, railway and supply lines were severely disrupted.

Kritzinger was wounded in an attack on the British and made a prisoner of war. He was released by the British when Methuen was released by de la Rey.
