Christian Frederick Beyers was born on 23 September 1869 in Stellenbosch, but moved to the Transvaal in 1869 where he established himself as a lawyer in Boksburg. In 1891 he represented Transvaal at rugby against the British touring team.

During the South African War (1899-1902) he saw action in the early battles in Natal, then Diamond Hill and Dalmanutha, before the guerrilla phase of the war.

After the signing of the Peace Treaty he resumed his career in Pretoria. Beyers was in the car with General de la Rey when de la Rey was fatally wounded.

Beyers was one of the leaders in the 1914 Rebellion and drowned in the Vaal River whilst trying to escape from the Union forces.
