Lieutenant-General Bindon Blood died on 16 May 1940 aged 97.

He was in Zululand in 1879 where he saw service in the Anglo-Zulu War. He also saw service in the South African War.  He wasn’t in South Africa at the outset, only arriving in the country in March 1901 at the request of General Kitchener. He commanded a division in the Eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga).
