Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born on 30 November 1874 at his family’s ancestral home, Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England.
He was a British statesman, army officer, journalist and writer.
During the South African War (1899 – 1902) he gained international fame by escaping from a prisoner of war camp, and then re-joining hostilities two months later.
He played a major role in the first World War and was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 during the Second World War.
