Lieutenant-General Charles Tucker died on 22 December 1935 in France, at the age of 97.
He first saw action in South Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879).
At the outbreak of the South African War (1899-1902), at the age of 61, he took command of the British garrison in Pretoria, later moving to Bloemfontein to take command of the garrison in that town.
