Quaggafontein was a farm about 15 km south of Rustenburg.

On 31 August 1900 the British Cavalry Brigade under the command of Colonel Little were escorting a supply commando when they were attacked by Boers under the command of General de la Rey. The British attacked the Boers whilst the convoy was moved to a position of safety.  The engagement lasted the whole day with the British retiring to protect the convoy at nightfall.

De la Rey, on realising that the Boers under General Liebenberg had abandoned their forward position, withdrew all Boer forces.  The British losses were 11 killed and 35 wounded.
